Dutch food: it literally means blood sausage, it is the Dutch equivalent of black pudding. It is made of the blood of a cow or a pig.

recipe: Bloedworst with apple
Ingredients:

  • 4 slices of bloedworst (1cm thick)
  • 1 small onion, cut coarse
  • 1/2 apple, cut coarse
  • a little butter(if necessary, there is plenty of porkfat in the sausage to fry it)

Fry the slices in a pan untill the sausage is crusty and black. Add the onion, fry it till the onion is a little brown. Finally add the apple, but don't fry it too long because you will get apple sauce then. Serve with some bread and cold beer.

Flemish bloedworst traditionally comes in two tastes: regular (with onions) and sweet (with sugar and cinnamon, sometimes even raisins).

You eat them with either apple sauce or a mixture of red cabbage and apple sauce.
