Originated by Disney Theme Parks, the term Cast Member applies to any employee of the park whom at any point is seen by or interacts with the public. Under some circumstances however they may be refered to as other things. For example, in Disneyland, in the area of the Columbia's dock, Cast Members are refered to as Crew Members. This naming convention has spread to other parks - backstage access doors at Universal Stuios Hollywood now read "cast members only".
