Another name for a red blood cell. The stuff that carries oxygen around in your arteries and veins.

The name itself probably (correct me if I'm wrong) comes from the Greek eruthros meaning red and -cyte which is from some French word meaning cell.

(Greek erythros, "red" + Greek kytos, "a hollow") A mature red-colored blood cell that normally does not have a nucleus. It is a very small, circular disk with both faces concave, and contains hemoglobin, which carries oxygen to the body tissues.
