A term coined by Mary Daly to mean the systematic state-sponsored or condoned murder of women as women due to their role or position in society, eg. witchcraft trials, suttee, systematic infantcide of female children, etc.; derived from the Greek word gune 'of or relating to women' and the Latin caedere meaning 'to slay'.
