Latin phrase meaningly literally, "in the middle of things". This is an effective dramatic device ("hook") which can be used in a movie or book, to begin seemingly in the middle of the story, which is already moving along, sweeping you with it. Think of Chris Farley in the opening of Tommy Boy, racing to make it to elementary school on time. The viewer is caught up right away and never looks back...
