A perforated stone screen or lattice used as a dividing partition, window, or wall. They may be either carved out of stone or made from wood inlayed with stone, and are usually highly ornamental. Jali are most often found in Indian and Islamic areas. Obviously, carving a jali is a rather difficult undertaking, and therefore they are most often found in palaces, temples, and mosques.
