Specifically, jingoism is nationalism at the expense of others: It involves cultivating defamatory stereotypes of people of other racial, cultural, and ethnic backgrounds to promote an attitude of national moral superiority. Typically, this treatment includes the wide use of ethnic slurs, characterization of foreigners as barbaric, savage, and amoral, and spreading the belief that the strength (and indeed, continued existence) of the vilified nation somehow lessens the values and strength of one's own country. Jingoism is propaganda at its worst, and it is the cause and fuel of countless wars.

Jin"go*ism (?), n.

The policy of the Jingoes, so called. See Jingo, 2.
