An insider term in professional wrestling.
A wrestler's entrance is very important--it's the first impression the
crowd gets of him. It's usually got catchy music, fireworks and
other pyrotechnics, and a lot of other zesty stuff.
A jobber usually gets no entrance. Well, obviously he does get
an entrance, since he doesn't get to the ring by osmosis, but it's not shown
on television. Usually, after the real wrestler is introduced,
the ring announcer will say something like, "And, his opponent, already in the ring, from Cleveland, Jobber Doe."
This has the dual effect of taking all the focus off the jobber (which
is what the promotion wants) and also conserving TV time for more important
segments.
Wrestlers who are being punished or who the promotion really don't want to succeed might also be given a jobber's entrance.
