A practice of certain types of whales, such as the Sperm Whale when they stick their tail out of the water, swing it around, and then slap it on the water's surface to make a loud sound. The meaning or purpose of lobtailing is unknown, but is believed to be a form of communication or a warning system to the rest of their pod.
