The nickname of the Canadian $1 coin. They were introduced in the late eighties. It is so named because the back of the coin features a loon on the back. It is gold and about 2cm wide by 3mm thick with an eleven-sided perimiter. The US now seems to have copied it(as evidenced by an ad I saw on an american station, but I do not know if they have a nickname for it yet (it seems to have an eagle on the back)
