In the game of cricket, the position of mid-off is located between the bowler and cover on the off side. Variations include:

  • silly mid-off - located dangerously close to the batter
  • short mid-off - located closer than usual to the batter
  • long off - located further than usual from the batter, perhaps on the boundary

"Square" and "fine" are never used to modify the position of mid-off. Rather the terms straight (ie, closer to the bowler) and wide (ie, closer to cover) are used.

Mid-off is one of the less glamourous fielding positions, and is often filled by a fast bowler.
