Not arrogant or pretentious

"He hides nowt, says what he means and means what he says; there's no side to him"
—anonymous Tyke

I first came across this phrase in Yorkshire, but it's not restricted to there by any means. Yorkshire folk are pretty straightforward, will call a spade a spade and don't try to hide their feelings or views behind fancy speech, and it was in this context that I first heard the phrase used. Straight speech and honest action aren't just admired in Yorkshire, so I'm introducing this phrase to my American friends in the hope of making it stick; not just the phrase but the philosophy.
