Something that self-reproduces, such as a self-reproducing computer program. A term used by Douglas Hofstadter in his book Gödel, Escher, Bach: An Eternal Golden Braid, apparently to distinguish it from "quine," which he used specifically to describe a self-referential sentence where the subject is a quotation of the rest of the sentence ("'to quine a phrase,' to quine a phrase"). However, Internet usage has subsumed the meaning of "self-rep" within "quine."
