Japanese word corresponding roughly to "and" in English. This word is only used for combining independent clauses in a sentence. It is not used for listing items or forming compound subjects or objects -- for that, to, ya, and others are used instead, depending on the cirumstances. See Japanese Conjunctions.

Neko wa ichinichi-ji nemashita soshite inu ga usagi o koroshimashita.
The cat slept all day, and the dog killed a rabbit.

Written (soshite), no kanji.
