A baseball term

A swinging bunt is not a real bunt at all. It refers to when a poorly hit ball rolls a short distance into play. While sacrifice bunts do not count as at-bats (and therefore do not hurt the hitter's batting average), a swinging bunt does. It is the scorer's job to decide if the batter intended to swing or to bunt.
