Ain't nuthin' but a Meme thang, baby!
"Good morning, that's a nice tnetennba."
-- Maurice Moss
In "The Final Countdown" (Season 4, Episode 2) of The IT Crowd (July 2, 2010), Maurice Moss has an extended run on the game show Countdown during which he solves a puzzle with the word tnetennba. It became, almost instantly, both memorable and meme-able (meme-orable?). Several definitions have been offered up by the Internet since then, including these three of the earliest as well as being the most related to one another:
- "One who looks up words which have been artificially created for the purpose of fiction or comedy." (Urban Dictionary)
- "a word embedded in a web site in order to increase traffic." (BigSoft)
- "a word you have to look up on the internet to see if it’s real." (Mask of Reason)
The latest mention of the term tnetennba that this noder has encountered is the question:
That's what bananas are measured in, correct?
Reminds me of the fourteenth episode of the eighth season of Cheers (January 18, 1990), "What Is... Cliff Clavin?" to a point.
