Transport phenomena is the term used in
chemical engineering for the
study of transporting anything that mater in a
chemical system. The most important use of these
phenomena are in
fluids. It has three classic divisions, each one studies a separated class of phenomena.
Usually the first one to be studied, and the simplest, is the momentum transfer that studies how a fluid transmits a pressure or force that is applied upon then
and involves also how difficult is to a fluid to flow in a pipe, so it involves transporting of the fluids itself.
The second phenomena to be studied is the heat transfer and it is divided in heat transference in solids (conduction), fluids (convection), and vacuum (radiation), but yet, convection is the most important form of heat transference.
Finally, mass transfer is, basically, diffusion. Here are studied the principles of fluids and solids diffusion.
