Pronounced zat-NICK-a-tel.
Weapon used by the Goa'uld and Tok'ra in the sci-fi series Stargate SG-1. The weapon first appeared in episode 121, Within the Serpent's Grasp, when O'Neill, Teal'c, Jackson, and Carter stumbled upon a cache of weapons in the cargo hold of a Goa'uld ship.
The zatnicketel is an energy weapon shaped like small, bent snake. Though not as powerful as a staff weapon, it is incredibly useful--especially on covert operations. One discharge from the weapon incapacitates an enemy and causes him or her a great deal of pain; two shots are lethal; and three shots will both kill and disintegrate the target. (God, you just gotta love sci-fi!)
While the members of SG-1 still rely primarily on machine guns when travelling off-world, they often bring these "zat guns" along when the mission is especially dangerous.
