A three issue
comic series by
Warren Ellis and
Gary Erskine. Although it was completed several years before, this only saw print from
Image Comics in 2000. Mister Ellis is on record as stating that thematically this shows the progression from the society of his
Lazarus Churchyard stories to the City of
Transmetropolitan.
This is the story of a city on the edge of imp/explosion where the delicate balance is maintained by a group of special operatives who operate not so much outside the rules as straight through them (like a bulldozer).
City of Silence shows Mister Ellis' penchant for creating a rich and complex reality full of little apparently irrelevant details. This includes background pieces in the back of the first couple of books that become much more important in the later issues (if you want to understand what's going on).
