Restaurant on
New York City's
Upper West Side whose main claim to fame is the fact that its
facade was used for the opening shots of
Seinfeld, as it was once frequented by some of the show's writers. It is also a
diner and
coffee shop similar to Monk's, the one frequented by Jerry, George, Elaine, and Kramer. But the similarities end there. It is much smaller than its television counterpart, and features a drastically different design.
In addition to its television fame, its original noteriety came from being the inspiration for Suzanne Vega's song of the same name. The song describes a woman eating breakfast while dealing with the everyday events around her and a rude waitstaff.
As a former student at Columbia University, I dined here quite often, as it is only a few blocks from the main campus, and features very passable and cheap diner fare. If you ever find yourself here, go for the milkshakes.
