This is a fairly simple (and obscene) mnemonic for the diatomic molecules--the atoms listed, when in a gaseous state, exist in pairs: i.e., O2

That's for Oxygen, Hydrogen, Chlorine, Fluorine, Bromine, Iodine, and Nitrogen, or O2, H2, Cl2, F2, Br2, I2, and N2, respectively. I apologize for the double adverb, but it is a necessary evil.
