cities and
capitals from
around the world.

For 1999, Washington, D.C. is listed as the murder capital of the world with 50.82 murders per 100,000 people. The other leaders are Pretoria—27.47, Moscow—18.20, Tallinn—11.23 and New York—9.39. All other listed cities have rates below 6 per 100,000. The average of European Union capitals is 2.71.
