Her name means "Flower Feather" and she was the
Aztec goddess of
love, the
earth,
flowers,
plants,
games and
dancing. She is also the patron goddess of
artisans,
prostitutes, pregnant
women and
child birth.
Xochiquetzal is represented by butterflies and birds. Every eight years a feast would be held in her honor and the celebrants would wear animal and flowers masks. She is the twin sister of the flower prince Xochipilli and is sometimes mentioned as the wife of the rain god Tlaloc.
