The
setting:
Writing Class. A
washed-out hippie-reject stands at the
front of the class desperately trying to find a
volunteer. One girl raises her hand and gives her paper over. "Don't
worry," he says, "I'm not going to
call you an
ignorant slut!" She looks at him
shocked, not used to hearing such
bold language in the
classroom. Fear
grasps the hippie. Has he
offended her? Will she
complain to the
chancellor?? Will a
lawsuit be filed???
Of course not! But written
apologies are made anyway.
This is the problem with today's society. People are so afraid of being sued or losing their status in life because of one slip of the tongue that no one will express themselves freely. As a rule, the public is not censored, but the wave of political correctness censors them anyway. This must be stopped. We as a society have a responsibility to watch what we say and how we say it, but I believe that today's use of political correctness has gone too far. So please, stop being so sensitive and instead of focusing on the exact words, focus on how they were meant to be heard, not how they are heard.
