Optics company founded in
Rochester,
New York in 1853; its world
headquarters are still found in that city. Their primary products are
eye care products,
opthalmic surgical supplies, and some eye-related
pharmaceuticals.
The company was founded by German immigrant John Jacob Bausch and his friend Henry Lomb. Both men lived in Rochester and are buried in Mount Hope Cemetery.
Along with imaging companies Xerox and Kodak, also founded in Rochester, B&L was one of the reasons for that city's recent slogan, The World's Image Center.
