The name Tchort was a Russian word for the devil or a devil/demon/etc.

Tchort is also a person. He's a Norwegian Metal musician. His first appearance was on Norwegian Black Metal band Emperor's first album In the Nightside Eclipse on bass. After this he left that band, and played with the doom/death/black metal band In the Woods (he might have already been playing with them before Emperor, I'm not 100% sure), and then his own baby Green Carnation (who have actually been around since 1990, but didn't do much until much later in the decade), who released some moving epic material, and are now mining a depressive alt metal vibe.

Tchort is also the replacement guitarist (for Nordavind) in Carpathian Forest. I believe he has been on other band's albums as well, but I don't know them all.
