Grouping of dogs bred to hunt by
sight as opposed to the
scenthounds such as
beagles,
bassets, and
bloodhounds. The most common of these dogs are
greyhounds fleethounds and
wolfhounds. They have exceptionally good vision, good endurance, and the ability for sprinting
very fast over short distances. The basic build of the group is very long slender almost deerlike
legs, a very thin, long chest (much like the
keelbone of a bird, really), high tucked-up stomach, long thin tail and a very narrow face with a long nose--a very efficient, aerodnamic build for speed.
These dogs can be high-strung just because of the sheer amount of physical energy they have, so they are not dogs to keep in a small apartment, but they are very loyal and sweet, quite intelligent, and if you have space make wonderful pets.
