In the second publishing of The Wonderful Wizard of Oz, the publishers had started observing the phenomenon that the book had on School Plays across the nation, which were often shortened to The Wizard of Oz. Anyhow, the new publishers tried to change the name to "The New Wizard of Oz", but the name didn't stick. Finally, it was shortened down to "The Wizard of Oz", and, notably in this chapter (WoOz: 14 The Winged Monkeys) the yellow flowers were made into scarlet flowers, for some reason.
