measurement used to tell when it is time to
clean out my closet.
When I run out of coat hangers to hang all the clean laundry, in those rare times that all the laundry is clean, it is time to give some clothing to charity, because certainly soon enough there will be no more room to put anything new, and most of what is in there I never wear anyway.
That way, I can rotate stock and help others as well, not to mention keep a tidy closet.
I'm no Martha Stewart but it is the closest I can get.
