This condition will often show up on an EKG as an irregular heartbeat and preclude the patient from obtaining standard rates for insurance. This may seem somewhat unfair to the patient, since many people live with this condition to a ripe old age and never suffer any noticeable symptoms.
Unfortunately, it is quite serious in others, and insurance rates have to be based on actual statistics, not concepts of fairness.
