This is the most common classification of exocrine glands—glands which release fluids into the external world. (The opposite of the exocrine system is the endocrine systerm.)

Eccrine glands are located all-over in the upper dermis of large animals such as people and bears, in the pads of smaller furred animals such as cats and dogs and are absent in rodents.

Eccrine glands release a milky, odorless, viscous fluid without any cellular damage. Their shape may be either tubular or saccular.

Eccrine is also known as merocrine.
