It's almost February, and teenagers are dreaming of the summer,

at the Lake

sailboat boys with sunburned faces and deck shoes

waitress girls with ponytails and perfect teeth

They'll work all day under cloudless skies, or

out on the blue water

Then, after the tourists have gone to bed they'll get together

drink cheap beer, talk about fast cars and seeing the world

They will feel almost grown up
hundreds of miles from their suburbs, the pressure of ACT and college loans

almost February and we are all dreaming of summer

all of us who remember
