Buddy's political survival is legendary: Was Mayor. Went to jail for the kidnapping and assault of a friend he believed to be dating his estranged wife (assault with a log, lit cigarette, and ashtray; witnessed by his lawyer, driver, former attorney general, and director of public works). Got out and was promptly re-elected Mayor. Recently re-elected again with over 90% of the vote.

The best part of the story is that his wife's name was reportedly 'Nancy Anne'. Which made her 'Nancy Anne Cianci', or "Nancy Antsy Antsy."
It's notable that Providence actually has been doing well under Buddy's leadership. It's home to two network shows, NBC's Gravity Games, a new convention center, and a surge of recent construction.
