Eleventh-century Tibetan Buddhist yogin and poet. His story is told in The Life of Milarepa, a text in which nearly every prose section is followed with a section of verse. He relays his initiation into and cultivation of the Vajrayana tradition of Buddhism, and outlines some fundamental ideas of Tibetan Buddhism. Often described as the most renowned saint in Tibetan Buddhist history.

"Milarepa's delicate, gentle features and pale complexion in the tankas and paintings contrasted strangely with his extraordinary physical tenacity and loyalty to the Truth." -Lobsang P. Lhalungpa, in his Introduction
