Carrefour SA is a large scale retailer of groceries and consumer goods (distributed in Carrefour, Euromarche & Viniprix), and carpets (distributed in Mondial Moquette). It operates 680 Carrefour hypermarkets & supermarkets in 26 countries including France, Spain, Portugal, Brazil, Argentina, Taiwan, the USA, Mexico, and some Asian countries. 227 hypermarkets are located in France and 453 abroad. The group is also involved in the distribution of petrol and heating oil and provides credit to its customers and offers insurance services. In 1999 it acquired 95% of Promodes.
