Latin, accomplished by
St. Jerome, who wanted to help out people who wanted to study the Bible without knowing
ancient Hebrew,
koine Greek, or
Aramaic, the three original languages of the
Old and New Testaments.
The Vulgate is an enormously influential translation and affected many generations' understanding of the Bible, not to mention the word choices of subsequent translators.
