Come On Pilgrim was released in 1987 (in the
UK) under the record label
4AD and in the US on
Rough Trade. Though somewhat on the short side,
the Pixies' first release (not counting their 1986 demo) proved to be
monumental in stirring up
interest in the
Boston quartet, deemed by the magazine
Q to be "capable of throwing a few spells into the wishing well."
Come On Pilgrim was produced by Gary Smith, with Kim Deal listed in the sleeve as Mrs. John Murphy.
The name "Come on Pilgrim" was lifted off a Larry Norman song, "Watch What You're Doing". Norman's line, "Come on pilgrim, you know he loves you," appears in the song "Levitate Me."
