The 321
area code was created on
November 1, 1999 to cover the
Space Coast of
Florida—the area around
Cape Canaveral and
Titusville. Before 321, these cities were in the
407 area code with
Orlando.
321 has a unique twist, though. Although it's the only area code for the Space Coast, it is also used for new phone numbers in the 407 area around Orlando. While there are some other area codes that overlay multiple area codes (e.g. 917 in New York City), 321 is the only area code that has its own jurisdiction and also overlays another.
Leave it to Florida to come up with something so, uh, "special."
