Tridentine Mass

So-called because it was promulated for use in the Catholic Church at the Council of Trent (1545 to 1563). This Mass is said or sung in Latin and was used in the universal Church until Pope Paul VI authorized the Novo Ordo (= new order of service) in 1969. The main distinguishing feature is that the Novo Ordo is said in the vernacular with the intention of making the Mass more meaningful to the faithful.
