Canisius College is located in the heart of Buffalo, NY. It is situated on one of the major streets in the city, and extends into the surrounding residential neighborhood. It is considered one of the top private colleges in Western New York.
The college was founded in 1870 by the Jesuits, who still run it today. Enrollment has grown to over 5000 students since then and the campus has grown considerably, now occupying a large portion of land on Main St. There are also other buildings owned by the college nearby (additional residence halls and a sports complex).
Class sizes are generally small (mid 20s on average) as are the graduating classes (around 700 undergraduate). Personal attention from faculty is common, and there are no teacher's aids teaching classes. Tuition is steep (now over $20,000 in 2003) but financial aid is readily available to those who need it.
