A rad book by beatnik-punk-drifter Malcolm Lowry. It's also the name of an annual music and social change festival held each August in Cates Park (in Deep Cove, British Columbia), where Lowry squatted for years in a ghetto of likeminded scruffy artists before the city of North Vancouver burned them out. 1999 was the festival's 10th anniversary. The lineup of artists featured many bands, including the ever-lively-and-lovely Kinnie Starr (Fire-throwers at the children's stage! You know you can't go wrong with that.) and the righteously punk Submission Hold, as well as numerous activist speakers, poets (including our own pseudo_intellectual), performance and street theatre artists, and others. Admission is by donation. (but give good - if they're lucky they sometimes break even.)
