In addition to the traditional definition, "affected" can also indicate...

• that one is influenced by something or someone
  Janie was so affected by the professor's book that she changed her major.
  
• that one has been emotionally moved
  The tribute affected me so, I was moved to tears!
  
• that one is trying to impress other people or earn their praise
  As much as I don't like to admit it, I can be overly affected sometimes. I seek the approval of others at the expense of my own goals.
  
• that something is damaged or ill.
  The affected crops left the farmer in debt.
