On an old oil field in Los Angeles there sits a school half-finished. What is it? The Belmont Learning Center, a project that the Los Angeles Unified School District had spent more than $200 million on, and had to stop because no one bother to check about the potentially dangerous methane gas. Designed to releved the over crowded Belmont High School nearby, it has been estimated that another $250 million would be required to clean up and continue construction. This would also make it the most expensive public school ever build in the United States. So, while the LAUSD tries to figure out what to do, the school sits there rusting (As it has been since around 1998).

Incidently, the parents who refuse to send their kids there, have apartments directly adjacent to the Belmont Project with the same problem.
