1. "Biotech" is a common shortening of the term biotechnology, which is in turn a condensation of the term "biological technology". It refers to the industrial use of living organisms (such as yeast or bacteria) or biological techniques developed through basic research. Biotechnology products include antibiotics, insulin, interferon, recombinant DNA, and techniques such as waste recycling.

Much older forms of biotechnology include breadmaking, cheesemaking and brewing wine and beer.

  2. Run by the Andrew Ellington lab at University of Texas at Austin, BioTech is a hybrid biology/chemistry educational resource and research tool on the web. BioTech is intended to be a learning tool that will attract students and enrich the public's knowledge of biology issues. At the same time, BioTech is also a research tool for those already involved in the broad subject of biology.
