The
Camarillo State Mental Hospital was a
psychiatric rehabilitation facility in
Camarillo,
CA.
It is famous for housing
musicians
Charlie Parker (1940's) and
Steve Mann
(1960's)
during their
rehabilitations from
drug addiction.
Parker wrote
Relaxin' at Camarillo
in honor of his time there.
It's very possible that Camarillo is the
Hotel
California referred to by
The Eagles.
There must be a very interesting history to the place.
The hospital was closed circa 1997 when it became the
site of the California
State University Northridge at Channel Islands.
Camarillo is a smallish California city in
Ventura County located on US 101
about halfway between Santa Barbara and
Los Angeles.
