The Corriente was brought to the "
New World" by the
Spanish in the late fifteenth and early sixteenth
centuries. They were well-suited to the difficulties of
Atlantic travel, and were used for
meat,
milk, and travel in the brutal wilderness of
Central and
North America.
They are also used as rodeo bulls, because of their long horns and ample strength.
Thanks to baffo for pointing out that 'corriente' means 'ordinary' in Spanish.
