A
solution commonly used during
probe hybridizations that involve filters (such as
Southern,
Northern, or
Western blots). The solution contains
ficoll,
bovine serum albumin,
polyvinylpyrrolidone (PVP), and a high concentration of nonspecific
DNA so the probe won't
hybridize nonspecifically.
