In case this is not a troll: consider, for a second, that you want to measure the distance between the Earth and Proxima Centauri --- still care to use a ruler ?
Do you like your bridges, your house, your supermarket to stand up or crash to the ground ? Remember that they are designed with very concrete physic rules, that heavily use ... geometry. And calculus, of course.
It is a pity that, when studying basic geometry, people are normally exposed to silly examples and kind-of-pointless exercises: nonetheless, one has to practice in order to learn.

I don't want to sound snotty, but to have someone know what Cat5 cable is and not understand the importance of geometry is a symptom of a sick education system.
