So begins the unfortunate story of Harvie Krumpet, who is cursed with seemingly unending bad luck and misfortune, such as:
- being born with Tourette's Syndrome
- coming home from a camping trip to find his house burned
- having to emigrate to Australia when the Germans invaded
- being hit in the head and having his skull split in two
- having the steel plate in his head struck by lightning
- developing asthma, Alzheimer's and testicular cancer
- watching his wife die from a brain clot on his 65th birthday
And yet, even through all this misfortune, Harvie still manages to see the bright side of life. He finds love, and although he is sterile, teaches his adopted daughter about life. He finds new facts every day that he puts in a notebook he carries everywhere, and he manages, at times, to seize the day whenever he wants to.
A champion short Oscar™-winning film by Adam Eliot, with excellent narration by Geoffrey Rush and voices by Julie Forsyth, John Flaus and Kamahl. The 2003 claymation film is funny and moving at the same time. It thoroughly deserves the awards it has received. A great film to be watched by one and all.
