A traditional sea chantey of unknown origin, with the earliest record in 1917. The Almanac Singers recorded a version on the album Deep Sea Chanteys and Whaling Ballads in 1941. These are all of the verses that I know.

When I was just a little boy, so my mother told me
Way haul away, we'll haul away, Joe
That if I did not kiss the girls, my lips they would grow moldy
Way haul away, we'll haul away, Joe
Way haul away, we'll all pull together
Way haul away, we'll haul away, Joe

And once I met a German girl, and she was fat and lazy
Way haul away, we'll haul away, Joe
And then I met an Irish girl, she damn near drove me crazy
Way haul away, we'll haul away, Joe
Way haul away, the good ship now is rolling
Way haul away, we'll haul away, Joe

Once I met a Gypsy girl, and she was oh so purty
Way haul away, we'll haul away, Joe
But when I lifted up her skirts, what was down there was dirty
Way haul away, we'll haul away, Joe
Way haul away, the storms they are a raging
Way haul away, we'll haul away, Joe

Louis was the king of France, he before the revolution
Way haul away, we'll haul away, Joe
But when he got his head cut off, it spoilt his constitution
Way haul away, we'll haul away, Joe
Way haul away, we're bound for death and glory
Way haul away, we'll haul away, Joe

Saint Patrick was a gentleman, he came from decent people
Way haul away, we'll haul away, Joe
He built a church in Dublin-town, and on it put a steeple
Way haul away, we'll haul away, Joe
Way haul away, we'll all haul together
Way haul away, we'll haul away, Joe

And when we finally hit port, then I shall go a-drinking
Way haul away, we'll haul away, Joe
But if this damn storm does not stop, then we will be a-sinking
Way haul away, we'll haul away, Joe
Way haul away, we're bound for better weather
Way haul away, we'll haul away, Joe

Way, haul away, I'll sing to you of Nancy
Way haul away, we'll haul away, Joe
Way, haul away, she's just my cut and ]fancy
Way haul away, we'll haul away, Joe
Way haul away, we'll all haul together
Way haul away, we'll haul away, Joe

(Alternative, shorter version) Way, haul away, we'll haul away the bowlin'
Way, haul away, we'll haul away Joe
Way, haul away, the packet is a rollin'
Way, haul away, we'll haul away Joe

Oh once I had an Irish girl and she was fat and lazy
Way, haul away, we'll haul away Joe
Then I had a Spanish girl, she nearly drove me crazy
Way, haul away, we'll haul away Joe

When I was a little boy, and so my mother told me
Way, haul away, we'll haul away Joe
That if I didn't kiss the girls, my lips would go all mouldy
Way, haul away, we'll haul away Joe

Way, haul away, we'll hang and haul together
Way, haul away, we'll haul away Joe
Way, haul away, we'll haul for better weather
Way, haul away, we'll haul away Joe
